Renal Clearance of Acetylsalicylic Acid in Human Male Volunteers

Abstract : Renal clearance of endogenous creatinine and acetylsalicylic acid was investigated in 12 healthy male volunteers. Blood and urine samples were collected at pre-determined time intervals. The concentration of acetylsalicylic acid (as salicylates) and creatinine in plasma and urine were determined colorimetrically. Mean +SE values were found to be, for diuresis 0.031+0.011 mLmin‾1 kg‾1, Plasma concentration of creatinine and salicylic acid 15.11+0.166 μg mL‾1 and 29.38+0.12 μg mL‾1, urine concentration of creatinine and salicylic acid 855.73+1.53 μg ml‾1 and 38.30+0.43 μg mL‾1, renal clearance of creatinine and salicylic acid 1.52+0.08 ml min‾1 kg‾1 and 0.063+0.02 mL min‾1 kg‾1 and clearance ratio 0.054+0.016.
