The advent of library automation in the 1960s and subsequent developments in information technology have changed the role of catalogers. How catalogers are being prepared by American library schools to meet the challenges of the electronic environment is discussed. This is followed by an analysis of cataloging courses offered by library science departments in the Arabian Gulf region to see whether they have been designed to develop the desired competency in catalogers for present and future trends in cataloging., |
