| Abstract : | Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is a complex surgical intervention, associated with a high rate of postoperative morbidity and mortality. In this article I describe the surgical anatomy of the pancreas, the indications for this operation and the techniques for resection. I also discuss several controversies in the PD technique: the role of extended lymphadenectomy, pylorus preservation, early retropancreatic dissection, different types of pancreatico-digestive anastomosis., |
