Abstract : Laparoscopic appendectomy is a feasible and safe procedure and became the standard technique in some surgical departments. This paper describes the anatomical landmarks, indications, preoperative management and the technique of laparoscopic appendectomy. Laparoscopic appendectomy is indicated especially for uncertain diagnosis and obese patients. We also describe the most common alternative techniques: video-assisted appendectomy (described by Ph. Mouret), extra-abdominal laparoscopic appendectomy and the combined technique (treatment of the mesoappendix inside the abdominal cavity and then the appendix outside the abdominal cavity). Advantages of the laparoscopic appendectomy are: low postoperative morbidity, thorough exploration of the abdomen and short postoperative stay. Conclusion: Laparoscopic appendectomy is a feasible and safe technique, but has a high price. ,
