Abstract : The management of acute esophagitis due to chemical burns is very important for the patient’s outcome. An optimal approach for this trauma can reduce the morbidity related to esophageal stenosis. The ingestion of caustic substances affects two basic groups: the pediatric population suffering from accidental ingestions, and the adolescent to adult age group in whom almost all of these ingestions are related to suicidal attempts. In this paper we tried a review of the actual opinions for this emergency situation. CONCLUSION. The potentially catastrophic presentation and lifelong complications that result from caustic ingestion make it one of the most challenging clinical situations in emergency care and surgery.,
