This paper discusses the barriers to constructability in Saudi Arabian construction industry. A survey of 92 General Contractors, was conducted through a structured questionnaire to rate and discuss constructability barriers. The participants were asked to check all the activities that their organization may perform during the conceptual, design, and construction phases. The research inference was derived from the participants' opinions about constructability related issues such as: inserting construction knowledge into the design phase, frequency of some constructability barriers, type of projects require constructability practice, and difficulties due to using traditional method (design without construction knowledge input). Also, all participants were asked if constructability should be included as another specialty during design phase. The data collected was analyzed descriptively and results were tabulated. As a result of this research, a good level of constructability awareness among the General Contractors in the Saudi Arabian Eastern Province was recognized but there is still a lot to be done due to constructability barriers existence., |
