Abstract : Over the past few years, active databases have become an important area of research. A number of efforts have addressed event-condition-action (ECA) rule support in the context of relational databases. This paper provides a concise comparative evaluation of active database features of representative commercial as well as research prototypes. The comparison uses three key characteristics: rule expressiveness, execution semantics, and efficiency aspects.,
