We propose a new structure of decision feedback adaptive equalizer (DFE) suitable for use in mobile radio systems. The proposed structure named Commutating Decision Feedback Equalizer (CDFE) has two DFEs that operate in a commutating fashion; the two DFEs commutate between training and equalization. Such a commutating operation effectively lengthens the equalizer tracking period over time variant channels. Thus, the CDFE has a superior performance over the conventional DFE in fading channels.
